Wise Words: Handmade

With both me and Jamie being big fans of Ed Sheeran, it was inevitable that I would illustrate a quote from one of his new songs! In fact, this is the second one I have done, you can see the other one over on the Bea & Bloom Instagram account. This lyric stood out to me the first time I heard 'Castle on the Hill' and its definitely one of my favourite parts of the song.

No doubt I'll be doing more illustrations like this once the full album is released!

(The illustration is in the style of the Botanica range from Bea & Bloom)

Wise Words: True Friends

I've been working on lots of lovely illustrated romantic quotes over at Bea & Bloom, but its been a while since I worked on one with a different theme. So the first Wise Words illustration of 2017 is all about friendship, and is inspired by the wonderful support I've received from my lovely friends in the last few weeks. Most of my friends live quite a distance from me (including one, my Maid of Honour, in Florida!) so the sentiment of this lovely quote felt very special to me.

Do you have a favourite quote, saying or lyric that you'd like to see me illustrate?

Wise Words: Slowly

Our wedding plans are well under way and its all getting very exciting!
I've made a list of all the things I want to design for the wedding, and its looking quite long! Think invites, table numbers, order of the day, posters etc.
This week I've made a start on some illustrated quotes which will form part of the table centre pieces (along with flowers and candles of course)
I don't want to share everything here until after the wedding but I thought I'd share one of them as a little preview! This one features a lovely quote from one of my favourite books 'The Fault in Our Stars"...

Wise Words: Khal Drogo

I've mentioned a couple of times over on Instagram that we recently started watching Game of Thrones (and have been frantically trying to catch up for the new season!)
Now we're all caught up I'm planning on creating a series of illustrations of all the castles and kingdoms (I didn't want to see any spoilers searching for reference images so I've been waiting until we're all up to date!)
But in the mean time, I thought I'd create an illustration inspired a quote from Khal Drogo:
"You are the moon of my life. That is all I know and all I need to know. And if this is a dream I will kill the man that tries to wake me."
(I love how romantic this is and yet still manages to mention how easily he could kill someone if he wanted to!)

I created two slightly different versions, one in full colour and one as a silhouette style, and I'm not sure which I prefer so I'm sharing both with you!

Which do you prefer?
Do you watch Game of Thrones?

Today I have another preview of the illustrations from the new colouring books.
This one is a slightly altered version of a page from the new edition of Positive Thoughts.
You are so loved...

Out of this World

I doodled this idea in one of my mini sketchbooks a few months ago and had forgotten about it. I found it again recently and decided to develop it into a finished illustration...
You're out of this world!

This illustration will be featuring in the new edition of my Positive thoughts colouring book, due to be ready for sale in the next few weeks!

Every Story

As I've mentioned a few times lately, I'm working on some new colouring books, including a second edition of Positive Thoughts.
This illustration is an edited, coloured version of one of the pages from the new colouring book.
I drew this one last week on World Book Day, inspired by all the tweets and images about books I saw throughout the day.

Wise Words: To Do

Since I haven't made many new illustrations lately and haven't had much to share, I thought I'd quickly stop by with a little preview of something from the new colouring books coming this week.
This is a coloured version of one of the illustrations that will be appearing in my Magic and Sparkle colouring book. Its a fantasy, dreamy, magical to do list!

Look out for the new colouring books over on Instagram very soon!

Wise Words: Blooms

As always happens when a craft fair is approaching, I haven't been producing as much new work over the last few weeks (which is why you haven't seen an Illustration Friday post for a while!). The time I would usually spend drawing is taken up producing lots of stock and planning my stall layout!
I do want to try and keep making work where I can though, so I thought I'd do a quick Wise Words illustration to share with you.

I saw this quote on Pinterest and immediately had to use it in a pretty floral design!

I can't promise how often I'll be posting in the next couple of weeks, especially with new work to show you, but you can follow my craft fair prep and sketchbook doodles over on Instagram @EmmaMargaretIllustration

Wise words: Adventure

I've really loved illustrating mountains lately (see my recent pattern and Illustration Friday posts) and they seem to have crept their way into my work again for a new Wise Words illustration!

Lets go on an adventure!

Emma Margaret Illustration Adventure 2015

This little quote seems pretty fitting for me this week, as its only 4 days until I head off on a cruise to the Fjords! I've never been to that part of the world before and I can't wait to explore all of the local towns and wander round lots of markets. I apologise in advance for the immense amount of photos that I'll be sharing once I'm back!

Wise Words: Daydream

I've been working on a different version of this for s secret project, but I love the sentiment of it so I thought I'd create another version to share here!

Don't quit your daydream.

Wise Words: You can

I was browsing throught Pinterest a few days ago and kept coming across lots of lovley Disney quotes. I realised it had been a while since I created a Wise Words illustration so decided to pick a quote and start drawing!
I went with this one from Tangled:
"Don't trust anyone that says you can't do it. Show them you can"

Wise Words: Darling

This Friday, Jamie and I are heading to Wembley Stadium to see Ed Sheeran! I bought tickets for Jamie's Christmas present back in November and 8 months later the date has finally arrived! We both love his music and neither of us have actually been to a concert before (we've chosen a pretty big event for our first one, with 90,000 people attending!) so we're definitely very excited!
Anyway it seemed appropriate to do a little Wise Words illustration of some of his lyrics, so here's a great line form one of my favourites:

Wise Words: Stars

Its been a long time since I've shared a Wise Words illustration here!
Over the weekend Mum & I watched Lady and the Tramp, and I was inspired by some of the lyrics from the opening song, so opened up my sketchbook!

"Look at the skies, they have stars in their eyes."

Although I'm not going to be doing these weekly again, I do hope I'll manage to do them a bit more regularly from now on. And I'm going to try and remember to take a note of any quotes and lyrics that inspire me before I forget them!

Wise Words: Yesterday

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I wouldn't be doing any Wise Words (or Over & Over) posts for a while as I had a hectic few weeks ahead. But one of the projects I'm working on actually involved me creating some new illustrations on the theme of positive quotes and phrases (all will be revealed soon!) so I thought I'd share one of those with you as this week's Wise Words post.

"Don't let a bad yesterday ruin a good today."

Wise Words: Beginnings

Hi everyone!
I'm back with another Wise Words post today, this time with a lovely little quote about beginnings:

Emma Margaret Illustration

I'd love some suggestions for quotes or lyrics for these posts (I'm starting to struggle to find ones I like!) so let me know if you have any ideas!

The fabric designs are coming along quite well this week, and I'll be sharing one or two of them with you in next week's Over & over post.

Wise Words: All that you are

As I mentioned on Tuesday's Over & over post, this week's designs are all of a romantic theme in honour of Valentine's day this weekend!
I wanted to use song lyrics this week, so chose a lovely line form Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran. Jamie and I love his music, so it seemed appropriate for Valentines!

"All that you are is all that I'll ever need"

Wise Words: Infinities

I mentioned in my "On my Bookshelf" post last month (there's a January post coming very soon!) that I had read and loved The Fault In Our Stars. I wanted to use a quote from a book for this week's Wise Words, and so this one seemed perfect.

Emma Margaret Illustration

And for those who haven't read the book and don't know the quote, here's the full version:

"There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There's .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I'm likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful." - John Green, The Fault In Our Stars

Wise Words: Flamingo

I wanted a colourful quote for this week's Wise Words illustration, so when I came across this Flamingo one it seemed perfect!

"Be a flamingo in a flock of pigeons!"
Be different, stand out, be you!

emma margaret illustration

I also wanted to use the banners as a container for the text, as I've been using that a lot in my card designs lately, but haven't used it in anything that I've been able to share here yet.

I ordered all of my new cards yesterday, so I'll be photographing them once they arrive and hope to have them up in the shop by next week!

Wise Words: Pixie Dust

I've been watching Once Upon a Time whilst I work over the past few weeks, so I was inspired to use a quote from one of the characters in that. Although the quote I've used here is form the Disney version of Peter Pan, not the Once Upon a Time version (who is a much darker character!).

"All you need is faith, trust and a little Pixie dust."

emma margaret illustration

The design of this piece is along the same lines as some of the new designs I'm working on. I'll be sharing some of them here shortly, but for now there's a few sneak peaks over on my Instagram account (@EmmaMargaretIllustration).
